On the anniversary of Jules Verne's speech at the inauguration of the circus on June 23, 1889, a bronze bust of the writer was unveiled on Thursday, June 23, 2022.
The bronze work, titled "Jules Verne, Prophetic, Turning Toward His City," was sculpted by Philippe Arnault (winner of the David Weill and Casa Velazquez prizes) as part of the Jules Verne project, which aims to promote Verne's heritage around the emblematic sites dedicated to Jules Verne in Amiens.
The bust consists of a 1.20-meter, 700-kilogram bush-hammered granite pedestal, on which rests the 80-centimeter-high, 73-kilogram bronze bust. It was created from a photograph by Félix Nadar. The date of June 23 is particularly symbolic, because it corresponds to the inauguration of the Jules Verne circus on June 23, 1889
