History of the Great War - Peronne Museum

An internationally renowned Museum of Comparative History, the Historial in Péronne combines the perspectives of the belligerents, from pre- to post-war, with an exceptional collection of objects, original documents, and works of art, including 50 engravings by Otto Dix.

It is one of the must-see sites on the Somme Memorial Trail and a veritable reference on the First World War.

Established in 1992, the museum is housed in the 13th-century château, a key symbol of the town of Péronne, besieged several times throughout history. The permanent exhibition devoted to the Great War is housed in the contemporary building designed by architect Henri-Edouard Ciriani.

In the "castle" section, the Guard Rooms highlight local history: that of the Château de Péronne, that of the surrounding region, and that of the Battle of Mont-Saint-Quentin. The modern building houses the five permanent exhibition rooms and two audiovisual rooms that make up the Great War exhibition, covering the entire conflict, from its origins to its aftermath.
