The history of this building is intertwined with the history of the city of Amiens and Picardy. Its origins remain obscure: property of the cathedral chapter in the Middle Ages, it became that of Jean de La Forge, general receiver of finances of Picardy in the modern era who rebuilt it around 1520. In 1565, this hotel, property of the Reffuge family, was bought by the State to serve as a residence for the governor of Picardy 1 . It was in this hotel that Cardinal Richelieu is said to have stayed in 1636 during the siege of Corbie.
It was here that two attempts to assassinate Richelieu failed due to the weakness of Gaston d'Orléans who, involved in the plot, chose to retire to Blois on October 20. Louis XIII also stayed at this hotel during the siege of Arras in 1640 .
In the 18th century , the hotel was abandoned but in 1926, it was protected as a historical monument (inscription by decree of May 18, 1926) 4. Victim of the German bombings of May 19, 1940, it was completely restored after the Second World War.
