As part of a public commission, Stephan Balkenhol created three statues from the same tree trunk in 1993.
Two statues, The Man in the Red Shirt and The Woman in the Green Dress, are located on the facades of the Don Square. The third statue is located in the river and therefore represents The Man on his Buoy .
The Man on his Buoy, emblem of the Saint-Leu district, was replaced in 2019 by a new version by the artist which is made of stainless steel.
In fact, the original was weakened by its long exposure to water and it broke at the ankles.
