La Lune des Pirates was inaugurated on May 20, 1987, at 17 quai Bélu, in the Saint-Leu district of Amiens, in a former banana warehouse. The name of the venue was chosen in 1986, shortly before its opening, and refers to the song "Lune des pirates" by the Amiens singer Paul Boissard.
In 1998, the venue was awarded the Contemporary Music Stage label by the Ministry of Culture.
